Narrativ Salon i Snekkersten – Narrative Practice Today

In the book So You Want to Do Narrative Therapy, Sanni Paljakka and Tom Carlson step away from the maps and introduce new concepts to capture what it means to work narratively.

This raises a number of fundamental questions: Is the work still narrative if we do not make use of the narrative maps? How can one ensure a narrative quality in the conversation when one does not rely on the methodological tools and structures the maps offer? And is it also possible to move too far away from narrative work when one leans too heavily into the narrative maps and methods?

DISPUK’s Director, Martin Nevers, has invited Sanni Paljakka and Tom Carlson to a conversation grounded in these questions when they visit Denmark in June to teach on DISPUK’s psychotherapy training programme. The conversation will, among other things, revolve around what orients the therapist when the maps move into the background, and how practitioners navigate the dilemmas these questions raise.

In addition, the conversation will turn to the therapist’s position as a witness to clients’ stories, exploring outsider witnessing as a shared concern in narrative practice, and how it is given a particular form and emphasis within DISPUK’s approach.

The salon will be the only open opportunity to experience Sanni and Tom at DISPUK in 2026 – unless you participate in one of the classes where they are guest lecturers.
